FROM THE START

About Tribus Interior Design

After more than a decade of helping clients create their luxury dream homes, Susan Peace-Vernon partnered with Tom Dillard to start Tribus Interior Design in 2015. As a full-service interior design firm, Susan lead Tribus with her extensive knowledge of home building and construction. But, with the ever-growing demand for upscale home design, she knew she needed to quickly expand her team with talented individuals that were equally passionate and shared her uniquely creative approach.

While attending The Gathering Interior Design Conference in 2015, Susan had an opportunity to speak as part of a showcase of successful alumni from Anderson University School of Interior Design. An attendee at the show, Kerry Howard, owner and operator of his own Atlanta-based design studio (KHM Interiors), recognized Susan’s work and introduced himself. The pair clicked right away, as did their skills and styles and it was evident that partnering together was the next logical step. Since then, their creative partnership has blossomed into four offices in three states, serving clients in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia.

THE BEGINNING.

The Whole Is Greater Than the Sum Of Its Parts.

Our company was conceived entirely as a self-serving attempt to create something we felt didn’t quite exist—a design firm with a deep knowledge of the home building and construction process and how it relates to the function and design of the spaces within. Our clients wanted a partner to walk them through each stage of the building project as it related to design and aesthetics, but this traversed the delineating line between construction and design. The right person in this role had to understand both worlds equally in order to truly be effective—a true emissary throughout the process.

Our background in luxury homes came with a remarkable opportunity to work alongside our clients through the entire process to craft an environment where they would feel comfortable and fulfilled. However, this required an understanding of the relationship and balance between functional living and aesthetics. This challenge led us to a unique, multi-dimensional approach that distinguishes us in our market.

In response to cookie-cutter and reused aesthetics from other designers, we decided early on that our spaces had to be distinct. They had to feel light and inviting, with gentle textures and lots of natural materials. Today, we manage every project from concept to completion; handling order procurement and installations, with a keen eye for detail. This allows us to be extremely flexible and efficient during design, so that the end product is greater than the sum of all its parts. We believe that if the construction is top-notch, so should be the spaces that accompany it.

We’ve served high-end clientele on the East Coast since 2016 with a bespoke approach that has established our company as a nationally-acclaimed industry leader.

THE VICE PRESIDENT.

Susan Peace-Vernon

When Susan is not spending time with her family or at the lake, you can find her in our office, diligently supporting client relationships. She is a professionally-trained interior designer who was raised in a home-building family, so she understands the critical relationship between architecture, space planning, and interior design. As the Vice President at Tribus Interior Design, Susan uses her vast experience and knowledge to continually surpass our clients’ expectations.

THE PRINCIPAL.

Kerry Howard

A South Carolina native, Kerry was called to Atlanta, Georgia after college where he founded his own full service interior design firm, KMH Interiors. He has been published in over 12 national and international publications throughout his career and has participated in over five show homes in the Southeast. Thankfully, Kerry found his way back home to South Carolina and onto the Tribus Interior Design team as our Senior Interior Designer.

THE ADMINISTRATOR.

Dianne Roberts

Known for her efficiency, professionalism, and quality service in the workplace, Dianne Roberts is an integral part of the Tribus team as Design Studio Administrator in the Greenville office. Dianne brings 32 years of industry knowledge and experience to the team and was previously a top salesperson for many years at Mayo Furniture where she built a million dollar per year client base for repeat customers. When she is not working hard to see clients’ visions become reality, Dianne enjoys teaching yoga and spending time with her husband, Terry and their cocker spaniel, Harley.

THE INTERIOR DESIGNER.

Baylie Weeks

Baylie is a recent graduate of the School of Interior Design at Anderson University and feels very fortunate to be a part of the Tribus team. Her aesthetic is a mix of all things eclectic. When Baylie is not working hard on our client’s designs she enjoys teaching dance and designing dance costumes.

THE DESIGN CONCIERGE.

Lyra Buckley

Lyra moved to South Carolina a little over two years ago and has a background in construction from both of her parents. She works closely with clients to give selections in an organized and timely manner, with a smile on her face. She has recently had the opportunity to grow under the guidance of Susan into a Selections and Lighting Specialist.

THE STUDIO & RETAIL MANAGER.

Marc Schreckengost

A native of Greenville, Marc has been in the design industry for over 30 years. He has curated interiors across the country spanning from California to Florida and everywhere in between. His passions includes color, texture, lighting, space planning, and landscaping. In January he decided to come home to South Carolina to work with Tribus as the Studio & Retail Manager.

THE ACCOUNTANT.

Ileana Diaz

Born and raised in Miami, FL, Ileana moved to the Upstate in 2007. With over 30 years of experience in accounting she is the key to all things money at Tribus. What she enjoys the most about this industry is no matter where a project starts—design or construction—she loves seeing the finished product and satisfied customers.

THE PRESIDENT.

Tom Dillard

With an entrepreneurial mindset and knack for starting businesses, Tom Dillard created Tribus Interior Design as a solution to a first-hand problem. Through his custom home building company, Dillard-Jones Builders, Tom recognized a need for collaboration between design services. As owner of Tribus Interior Design, Tom oversees the operations, makes sure all is running smoothly, and is constantly thinking of the best way to exceed client expectations. It is obvious that he has a passion for building – building relationships, building companies, and building dream homes.
